It was a regular meeting at AdClub when we had a guest speaker talk about an internship program-MAIP. The American Association of Advertising Agencies has a program for multicultural and minority students for a chance to intern at the top agencies in the industry. Our presenter made the program seem really appealing and rewarding so I definitely wanted to apply. After a video on what made me unique, several essays on my passion for the industry and letters of recommendation, I waited over the winter break for a decision. I was ecstatic when I received an email that I was a semi-finalist in the program. Fast forward 3 months and an interview later, I am a finalist in the program and will be living in New York this summer as a media planner in the renowned media agency MediaVest. I honestly could not have imagined a better way to spend the summer before my senior year. I know these chances only come once in a lifetime and I couldn’t be happier that it is happening to me. This post is basically to spread the word about the program and encourage everyone who meets the qualifications to apply. I will use this blog to record my learning experiences as I venture into my “first” real job/internship. Stay tuned for advice on how to live in the big city and all the opportunities that await!
